Exhibiting at Norwich University of the Arts Degree show 2018
Feeling the overwhelming love from the private view last night.
So many people came to see the show and the conversations I had with people were really positive and the work of others was incredible.
Once I arrived at the private view I was surprised to find out that I received a COMMENDATION AWARD from the Vice Chancellor of the University!!!!!!!
At the degree show, I showcased four upcycled wedding dresses from MiaSylvia's current collection which all have a range of processes either combined together or focused alone for each garment to tell a story.
All of the processes use the ethos of slow textiles by combining natural dying, slow stitching and upcycling wedding dresses, old metal, scrap food and foraged plants. These tools and knowledge are used for a narrative to each piece in the collection.
Backdrops have been hand dyed using avocado, red cabbage on raw organic cotton muslin.
To romanticise the drama of the garments a curtain of dried flowers and petals hang in an eerie fashion. All plants, petals and flowers have been collected over a years timespan from friends, family, foraging walks and bridal photoshoots.
